Uisce Eireann says a complex burst on a busy route has seen some water outages for North Wicklow customers and traffic disruption for motorists.
Wednesday, 14th January
Uisce Éireann crews are carrying out emergency repairs to a burst water main on the Dublin Road at Fisher’s Corner in Newtownmountkennedy.
Customers in the following areas may be impacted by water outages:
- Garden Village
- Glen of the Downs
- Kilcroney Lane
- Glenview Park.
The road at Fisher’s Corner has been closed to allow these emergency repair works to proceed safely. Northern access to Newtownmountkennedy is currently blocked.
Local access is maintained between Fisher’s Corner and the Applegreen service station only.
Access to the town is available from the southern side, either via Woodstock Road or from the Killadreenan Road (Newcastle Hospital area.)
Daniel Kennedy, Water Operations Manager, has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply and reopen the road as quickly as possible. “This is a complex burst on a busy route, which may result in water outages for some customers and traffic disruption for motorists. We understand how inconvenient unplanned outages can be, and the safety of our crews and all road users is our priority. We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.”
Repairs are expected to be completed by approximately 5pm this evening, (Wednesday 14th) with the road reopening shortly afterwards.
Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.
However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
