The INTO says it expects the number of long term vacancies and the pressure to find substitute teachers will be worse this year.
The union has called on the Government to urgently intervene as primary schools struggle with a shortage of qualified teachers.
Last year’s annual survey found two thousand long-term vacancies and a further one thousand substitutes required on a daily basis.
General Secretary of the INTO John Boyle says the situation is bad across the entire country, but worst in the East.
