Estimated start date for the new build moved from December 2025 to May 2026.
Reports that tender documents for the delayed construction of a new building at Blessington Community College are being welcomed.
It's understood the documents could now be available by August.
The estimated start date for the new build had been moved from December 2025 to May of next year amid long standing pressure on Education Minister Helen McEntee to fast track the development.
School management received planning permission last year to remove the existing temporary accommodation, and replace it with a new three-storey, 1,000 student school.
The facility is due to include a sports hall, special needs suite, general purpose hall and a library.
Welcoming the update, Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore says the school is badly needed for the local population :
I have been in regular contact with the Minister on it and will continue to do so. West Wicklow and Blessington have been waiting on this school for a considerable time. It is important it is built as soon as possible.
