Small boat owners in Wicklow are being urged to make sure their vessels are tied securely to their moorings after a major air sea search and rescue operation took place in Arklow bay yesterday.
A motorboat found a small power boat unmanned between the wind turbines off Arklow and the shoreline. They raised the alarm and towed the vessel to Arklow harbour.
The Arklow and Wicklow lifeboats along with the Coastguard 116 rescue helicopter and several private vessels carried out an extensive search of the area which lasted a number of hours, before being stood down, after it emerged the empty speedboat had broken from its moorings at a caravan park near Brittas bay and drifted to where it had been found.
