Wicklow County Council is being accused of operating a policy of providing only part time emergency accommodation...
...for families in homelessness and of dividing family members in some cases, by providing accommodation to Mothers and children and not the father.
According to Sinn Fein T.D. John Brady and Councillor Dermot O’Brien, families in homelessness are being accommodated by the council for three or four nights and are being left to fend for themselves for the remainder of the week.
Deputy Brady says between January and November of 2018, there were 594 homeless presentations to Wicklow County Council, including 338 families with 636 children.
However he says when it comes to providing emergency accommodation the families are being forced back onto the street for the nights the council won’t provide accommodation.
