RSA Express Concern Over Rise In Road Fatalities

Gardai are warning that despite reduced traffic due to Covid-19 travel restrictions drivers are speeding more.

There's been a 9 percent increase in the number of people kiled on Irish roads this year.

60 people have lost their lives including 18 pedestrians - double the number of walkers killed last year.

Overall there's been a 17% increase in fatal collisions compared with 2019

Chief Superintendent Paul Cleary says Gardai have launched their June Bank Holiday Road safety appeal:

Since the 27th March while Ireland has been in lockdown, 1153 drivers have been caught driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

There will be an increase in Garda activity on the roads this weekend with the primary focus to save lives and prevent serious collisions
