The number of people receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment is up just over 2,000 this week compared to last week.
352,000 people will receive the payment this week at a cost of 104 million euro.
The sector with the highest number of people in receipt of PUP is Accommodation and Food Service Activities, followed by Wholesale and Retail Trade and other sectors like hairdressers and beauty salons.
This week's figures are in addition to the 203,172 people who were reported on the Live Register at the end of October.
Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys says the increase in claims was expected as a result of Level 5 restrictions.
The Pandemic Unemployment Payment will remain open to new entrants until the end of March, following government approval.
To date over €4.3 billion has been paid out to hundreds of thousands of people who lost their jobs in the pandemic.
The extension of the closing date will ensure workers can still access the PUP in January in the event their employment ends after Christmas.
