Junior Minister for Agriculture with responsibility for forestry, Wicklow T.D. Andrew Doyle, has launch Coillte’s National Fire Training Day today, at the Avondale Forest Park in Rathdrum.
A series of presentations covering practical advice on firefighting, climate change and health and safety have taken place with the National Fire Service and the Air Corps showcasing a series of practical firefighting demonstrations using fire trucks and helicopters.
Coillte and the Forest Service are hoping to educate the public on how to be more fire aware this summer, and to understand the importance of reporting any forest fire sightings to their local fire brigade.
There were 90 incidents of fire on land owned by the company last year, including the week-long wildfire across the Slieve Bloom Mountains and gorse fires on Bray Head in July.
