Bus Éireann 133 Route Through Wicklow Facing Privatisation

Serious concerns are being raised about the future of the 133 Bus Eireann route through Wicklow, amid claims that the National Transport Authority has confirmed that it’s on a list of around 10% of routes that may be privatised.

According to Sinn Fein T.D. John Brady,  the NTA are proposing that route 133 be included in a package that will be removed from Bus Éireann’s contract and tendered to private operators.

Deputy Brady says he had warned some time back when changes to the 133 route were implemented, including diverting it from Bray town centre and removing the stop from Barndarrig, that he feared it was being prepared for privatisation.

The NTA said that they plan to tender out another 10% of Bus Éireann routes with the Contracts being awarded from December 2019.
