Your favourite soaps! - posted at 12:27pm

COVID-19 has turned our lives upside down and our favourite soaps are also a casualty.

Fair City:

All the filmed episodes have now been aired - how long before it returns to our screens is anyone's guess! A Fair City fan has set up a petition to have RTE  rerun the soap from the beginning. You can sign the petition here CLICK

Fair City first aired on Monday 18 September 1989 and is both the most popular and the longest running Irish drama serial.

Here's a look back at one of those  early episodes:

Eastenders:

Eastenders stopped filming last month and episodes are now being rationed. The soap will be aired twice a week instead of the usual four. Episodes  will now air on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7.30pm.

Eastenders has been broadcast on BBC One since 1985. Set in Albert Square in the East End of London in the fictional borough of Walford, the programme follows the stories of local residents and their families as they go about their daily lives.

Here's a look back at the first episode:

Coronation Street:

Due to the current coronavirus crisis, the soap is now airing only three episodes a week instead of the usual six. Coronation Street stopped production last month, so episodes will soon run out. Plans are in place for the like of Ken Barlow (William Roache), to talk about their time on the show. The four-part spin-off series will see iconic characters conduct interviews in their own homes, with the episodes  set to air later this year.

This clip is from 1964:

Emmerdale:

Emmerdale (known as Emmerdale Farm until 1989) is a British soap opera set in a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. The soap was first broadcast on 16 October 1972.

Emmerdale will be reducing the number of episodes  broadcasted per week down from six to three as ITV tries to stretch out the pre-recorded episodes.

Back when it was called Emmerdale Farm (1973):
